High-Volume Imports & 1-Click Batch Rollback

How to safely import 20,000+ SKU catalogs into Shopify with Run ID tracking, 1-click batch undo, and live job controls.

Fillman is designed to handle high-volume product catalogs exceeding 20,000+ SKUs with tens of thousands of high-resolution images in a single workflow.

Follow the safeguards and controls below to manage large-scale catalog updates safely and predictably.

1. Run ID Tracking & 1-Click Batch Rollback

Every time you run an import, Fillman registers that operation as an isolated Import Run and assigns it a unique Run ID (e.g. run_20261010_0842).

Fillman precisely tracks the exact products, variants, and media created during that specific run.

If an import ever needs to be reversed (for example, if a supplier provided outdated price sheets or mismatched product photos):

  1. In Fillman, navigate to Import History (Recent runs).
  2. Locate the specific job by date, timestamp, or Run ID.
  3. Click Undo Batch.
  4. Confirm the prompt.

Fillman removes only the products and photos created during that run. It leaves all other existing products in your store untouched, and prevents orphaned media from lingering in your Shopify Files library.

2. Canary Pre-Flight Verification (Optional Test)

When importing a new catalog for the first time, use Canary Mode to inspect live listings before processing the full file:

  1. On the Bulk Import screen, click Canary Test (First 3 Products).
  2. Fillman imports only the first 3 products and their associated photos, then pauses automatically.
  3. Click the direct product links displayed on screen to inspect the listings in your Shopify Admin:
    • Verify option values and variant swatches.
    • Check prices, compare-at prices, SKUs, and barcodes.
    • Confirm photo gallery sequencing and cover images.
  4. Click Import Remaining Catalog. Fillman skips the first 3 items and processes the rest of your catalog without duplicates.

3. Live Controls: Pause, Resume, and Cancel

During high-volume import jobs, you maintain complete real-time control through the progress panel:

  • Pause: Pauses the import right away so you can check live listings or step away without losing your place.
  • Resume: Picks up right where you left off without re-uploading earlier items.
  • Cancel: Safely stops the rest of the queue. Products that were already imported remain safe in Shopify, while pending items are skipped.

4. Merchant-Controlled Error Diagnostics

When individual products or rows contain validation issues (such as an existing barcode or an invalid tag format), Fillman isolates them in the Error Review Panel:

  • Clear Diagnostic Report: Flagged rows display with their product handle, row number, and Shopify’s exact validation message.
  • Merchant-Controlled Decision: Fillman gives you full control rather than silently altering your catalog. You can pause the run to fix your file, or choose to proceed with verified rows while exporting the flagged rows as a filtered spreadsheet for quick correction.
  • Targeted Re-Import: Once corrected, import only the resolved items without re-running the entire catalog.

5. Why Shopify Bulk Imports Differ from WooCommerce or Local Feeds

Merchants transitioning from self-hosted platforms like WooCommerce (or plugins like WP All Import) often wonder why bulk uploads into Shopify follow a measured, chunked pace:

  • Direct Database vs Managed Cloud Infrastructure: On self-hosted platforms, an import tool writes rows directly to a local MySQL database with zero rate policing. In contrast, Shopify is a globally distributed enterprise platform that verifies, indexes, and synchronizes data across a cloud network.
  • Media Ingestion & CDN Optimization: When you attach images to a Shopify product, Shopify’s infrastructure ingests each file, processes multiple responsive dimensions, generates WebP assets, and replicates them across its worldwide Content Delivery Network (CDN) to ensure lightning-fast storefront load times.
  • Shopify API Quotas: To guarantee 99.99% storefront uptime and prevent database bottlenecks, Shopify enforces strict safety quotas (typically 2 to 4 product mutations per second). Tools that attempt to force high concurrency encounter 429 Rate Limit Exceeded errors, resulting in failed uploads and disconnected sessions.
  • Fillman’s Continuous Flow Engine: Instead of overloading Shopify’s servers and triggering rate limit blocks, Fillman orchestrates imports through an intelligent chunking pipeline. It uploads at the maximum throughput Shopify safely accepts, guaranteeing steady progress, zero server crashes, and an uninterrupted live storefront.

Typical Catalog Processing Speeds

  • 100 Products with Images: ~40 to 60 seconds
  • 1,000 Products with Full Variant Sets: ~5 to 8 minutes
  • 20,000+ SKU High-Volume Catalog: ~1.5 to 2 hours, running reliably in the background without merchant intervention
